The New York Rangers scored twice in 89 seconds late in the third period to beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, their first comeback win of the season.
Pavel Dorofeyev tied the game 2-2 on a power play with 6:08 left in the third period, and Tye Kartye put New York ahead 89 seconds later, with 4:39 to play. Adam Fox set up both third period goals, Reuters reported. Kartye's goal was his fifth of the season and the third game winner of his career, according to the Associated Press report carried by theScore.
Philadelphia led after two periods
Gabe Perreault opened the scoring for New York 4:39 into the first period. Philadelphia tied the game 1-1 in the second period when Simon Benoit scored at 10:10, his first goal since March 10, 2025, stepping into a slap shot from the left point that beat Dylan Garand through a screen, Reuters reported.
Noel Acciari gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 12:09 of the second period, when a shot by Denver Barkey banked off Acciari's stick and past Garand. Philadelphia carried that lead into the third period and was opening a five game road trip with the game, NBC Sports Philadelphia reported.
The Flyers could not hold it. After Denver Barkey was called for slashing at 13:13 of the third, Dorofeyev scored the tying power play goal at 13:52. Kartye then scored at 15:21, sending a shot past Joseph Woll from the left circle for the winner.
Garand holds the crease
Rookie goaltender Dylan Garand made 23 saves for New York in his 12th straight appearance, Reuters reported. Woll made 25 saves for Philadelphia.
Garand has carried the Rangers net since Igor Shesterkin was injured on October 9 and declared out for the season the next day, according to the Associated Press. Earlier on Thursday, the Rangers placed veteran goaltender James Reimer on waivers, the Associated Press reported via TSN. Reimer had made one start for New York, allowing three goals on eight shots in one period against Los Angeles on October 26, and the move pointed to Joonas Korpisalo nearing a return from a lower body injury.
The win improved New York to 8-2-0 at home this season, Reuters reported. The Rangers play next at Seattle on Saturday. Philadelphia continues its road trip after falling to 4-10-4, according to the Associated Press.
