Nylander strikes first, Boeser answers
Nylander opened the scoring at 1:23 of the first period, assisted by Nick Paul and Jake McCabe. Nylander scored on a breakaway after a Vancouver turnover at the Toronto blue line, giving Toronto the lead before the game was two minutes old.
Brock Boeser tied the game 1-1 at 10:30 of the first period on a breakaway, assisted by Filip Hronek and Jonathan Lekkerimaki. The period ended 1-1, with both goals coming on breakaways and neither team able to build on its early chance.

Toronto takes control in the second period
Auston Matthews put Toronto ahead 2-1 at 3:47 of the second period, assisted by Darren Raddysh and Jack Roslovic. The goal was the 11th of the season for Matthews, scored from a sharp angle after a give and go with Raddysh.
