Manchester City beat RB Leipzig 3-2 at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in matchday four of the UEFA Champions League league phase. City led at half time through an own goal, were pegged back twice in the second half, and won the match through Erling Haaland in the 78th minute.
Own goal gives City the lead
City led 1-0 at half time after Leipzig captain Castello Lukeba scored an own goal in the 37th minute. It was the only goal of the first half, and it sent City into the break ahead in Leipzig.
Leipzig come back twice
Ridle Baku equalised for Leipzig early in the second half after an error by City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Enzo Fernandez put City 2-1 ahead around the hour mark, heading in a cross from Iliman Ndiaye.
The lead did not last. Antonio Nusa equalised for Leipzig at 2-2 minutes later, and the match was level again with time still to play.
Haaland settles it
Haaland scored the winner in the 78th minute, tapping in after a run and cross from Elliot Anderson. City had been pegged back twice before winning 3-2, and Haaland's finish was the last goal of the night.
The goal was Haaland's 13th career goal against RB Leipzig, in eight games against them. It is a record against one opponent that keeps growing, and this one was worth three points in the league phase table.
City are coached by Enzo Maresca, and the win was their second straight Champions League win. They leave Leipzig with a 3-2 victory built on an own goal, a Fernandez header, and a late Haaland tap-in, after Donnarumma's error and two Leipzig equalisers had twice put the result in doubt.
Leipzig scored twice at home, through Baku and Nusa, and levelled the match twice in the second half. They still finished with no points, because Haaland scored the fifth and final goal of the game in the 78th minute.
The full scoring sequence tells the shape of the night. Lukeba's own goal in the 37th minute stood alone until half time. Baku levelled early in the second half, Fernandez restored the City lead around the hour, Nusa levelled again minutes later, and Haaland settled the match in the 78th minute. Three of the five goals came in the second half, both Leipzig goals were equalisers, and the winner came from the player who has now scored 13 times against Leipzig in eight games.
