The Seattle Kraken beat the Calgary Flames 2-1 in overtime at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Matty Beniers scored the winner at 4:05 of overtime, on a breakaway set up by Brandon Montour, in a game that stayed tied from the middle of the second period to the last minute of the extra period.
Calgary had the better of the early play. FlamesNation, in its instant reaction report from the game, said the Flames carried the first period, skated fast, and made plays before opening the scoring. The goal came from a spell of cycling in the Seattle zone. A Zach Whitecloud point shot was deflected by Yegor Sharangovich and wobbled past goaltender Joey Daccord, giving Calgary a 1-0 lead with 7:15 left in the first period. Morgan Frost had the second assist on the goal, and FlamesNation reported that the assist was the 200th point of Frost's NHL career.
Seattle thought it had tied the game in the first period. Berkly Catton scored on a partial breakaway, but FlamesNation reported that the goal was disallowed after a coach's challenge by Calgary, because the zone entry was offside. The period ended with Calgary still ahead 1-0.
Catton ties it for real in the second
Seattle took the game over as it went on. FlamesNation said the Kraken were slow and disconnected in the first period, then adjusted, played faster, and gradually found their speed. Catton got his goal in the second period. He took a pass from Mackie Samoskevich on the rush and fired a wrist shot past Dustin Wolf to tie the game 1-1 with 6:51 left in the period. Kaapo Kakko had the second assist.
Neither team scored again in regulation. FlamesNation said both teams had decent chances in the third period, with Seattle getting more of them and the more dangerous ones. Calgary killed two penalties in the third period to keep the game tied, and Joel Farabee had a breakaway chance in the middle of the period that he could not finish. FlamesNation said Farabee was noticeable all night and was double shifted late in the third period.
Montour's interception decides overtime
Calgary had offensive zone time in overtime before the winner. FlamesNation reported that a Matvei Gridin pass attempt, aimed at Matt Coronato, was intercepted by Montour. Montour sent Beniers in alone on a breakaway, and Beniers beat Wolf with a wrist shot at 4:05 of overtime to end the game 2-1. The Sportradar play by play feed recorded the same scoring play, Beniers from Montour at 4:05.
The game was the fourth and final meeting of the season between the teams. It also closed a three game road trip for Calgary, and FlamesNation said it was the Flames' fifth game in eight days. Calgary started strong and faded as the game wore on, according to the report, defending in an organized way against Seattle's speed but generating little attack in the second half of the game.
FlamesNation put Calgary's record at 7-8-1 after the loss. The Flames head home next and host the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. Seattle took the extra point on a night when it also wore its Hometown Remix jerseys for the first time, FlamesNation reported, jerseys built around the club's anchor secondary logo.
