India beat New Zealand by four runs via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the second one-day international in Wellington on Saturday, November 7, 2026. India were 113 for 7 in 26 overs when rain halted play and ended the contest, four runs ahead of the DLS par score of 109. The result gave India a 2-0 lead in the five match series.

New Zealand bowled out for 134

New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs after being put in to bat. Rain had reduced the match to 47 overs per side. India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to field, and his bowlers held control for most of the innings on a day when scoring stayed hard.

Auqib Nabi struck early, removing openers Tim Seifert and Will Young. Seifert was Nabi's maiden international wicket. Gurnoor Brar then took 4 for 30, including a double wicket maiden that removed Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips when New Zealand were 53 for 3. Nabi, Anshul Kamboj and Axar Patel took two wickets each, so India shared all ten wickets among four bowlers.

Daryl Mitchell top-scored for New Zealand with 55 off 104 balls, after being dropped by Gill at cover on 21. Captain Mitchell Santner made 31 off 38 balls. No other New Zealand batter reached a score that could lift the total, and 134 left the hosts needing early wickets to stay in the match.

Duffy strikes, then India wobble

Jacob Duffy gave New Zealand that start. He dismissed Gill for a golden duck with his first ball of the innings and removed Virat Kohli for 7 in his next over. Rohit Sharma made 23, but Kyle Jamieson's spell left India wobbling at 47 for 4, and the chase was in real danger despite the low target.

Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with 30 off 46 balls. KL Rahul finished unbeaten on 26 off 38 balls, with two fours and two sixes, anchoring the chase as wickets fell around him. RevSportz reported that New Zealand fast bowler Blair Tickner was struck by an Anshul Kamboj bouncer and left the match with concussion, and that concussion substitute Matthew Fisher dismissed Axar Patel with a short ball.

Rain decides the finish

India had passed the 20 over minimum needed for a DLS result. When rain returned, India were 113 for 7 and needed a further 22 runs, with Jamieson having just dismissed Kamboj. The par score at that point was 109, so India were four runs ahead, and no further play was possible.

The brief scores were New Zealand 134, with Mitchell 55 and Brar 4 for 30, against India 113 for 7 in 26 overs, with Iyer 30 and Rahul 26 not out, and Jamieson and Duffy taking 3 for 35 each. The series now moves to Hamilton on Tuesday for the third ODI, with New Zealand needing a win to keep the series alive.
