Houston police are searching for a 35-year-old man who they say shot his girlfriend twice on Friday night in the courtyard of an apartment complex on Stella Link Road in southwest Houston, then walked away while his own family members helped the wounded woman.

Officers responded to multiple reports of a shooting at about 8:50 p.m. on Friday, November 6, just before 9 p.m., according to the Houston police account carried by FOX 26 Houston and by KPRC 2. The victim is a 39-year-old woman, and police have not released her name or the name of the man they are looking for.

What police say happened

The woman had been visiting the suspect's family at the apartment complex, and she had been on the phone with the man before the shooting, officers said. The man came to pick her up, and the two met in the courtyard of the complex. Officers said the man shot his girlfriend in the abdomen and in the leg, pushed her down, and then left the courtyard on foot. Police said the man "casually walked away" after the shooting.

The suspect's family members gave the woman aid until officers and Houston Fire Department crews arrived at the complex. Fire department crews took her to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. FOX 26 reported that she is expected to recover. No one else was reported hurt in the courtyard, and police have not said that any other person was targeted.

The search on Stella Link Road

Officers later found the man's vehicle abandoned a few blocks from the apartment complex. Police said the man had not been located, and officers were patrolling the area around Stella Link Road as the search continued into Saturday. By Saturday afternoon, neither station had reported an arrest, and police had announced no new description of the man beyond his age.

Stella Link Road is a busy north and south corridor in southwest Houston, lined with apartment complexes, shops and side streets, a short drive south of Loop 610. A shooting in a shared courtyard of a large complex on a Friday night is the kind of call that brings a heavy patrol response to the blocks around it, and officers stayed in the area while they looked for the man and his abandoned vehicle.

What police have not said

Police have not said what led to the shooting. Investigators have released no motive, no description of the man beyond his age, and no word on whether charges have been filed. The Friday night briefing at the scene is the full public account so far, and the search is the active part of the case: a named suspect has not been announced, and the man remains at large.
