Grand Theft Auto VI has sold an estimated 7.71 million copies before the game is even on sale, according to Sensor Tower, a video game research and market intelligence firm. Sensor Tower updated its Grand Theft Auto VI sales tracker with data to November 3, 2026, and put gross revenue from those pre-purchases at about $751 million, ahead of the launch on November 19. Every figure in the tracker is a third party estimate, not an official sales count. Rockstar Games, the studio making the game, and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed the numbers.
PlayStation 5 accounts for most of the estimated pre-purchases. Sensor Tower puts PlayStation 5 at 5.74 million units and $559 million in revenue, compared with 1.97 million units and $192 million on Xbox Series X|S. That is a split of 74 percent to 26 percent in favour of PlayStation 5. The two platform totals add up to the tracker headline figures of 7.71 million units and $751 million.
Estimates, not official sales
GameSpot reported the updated tracker on November 4, and Polygon reported the same Sensor Tower figures the same day: about 7.71 million copies ahead of the November 19 release, an estimated $751 million in revenue, and the same 74 percent to 26 percent platform split. Polygon noted that Rockstar has yet to officially confirm its preorder numbers. TalkEsport also reported the tracker figures. The three reports rest on one source, the Sensor Tower tracker, so they confirm what the tracker says. They are not three separate counts of what Rockstar has sold.
What the tracker counts, and what it leaves out
The Sensor Tower figures cover digital pre-orders on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and they are net of returns, which means cancelled pre-orders and refunds have been taken out. Physical copies reserved at retailers are not included, so the tracker is not a full count of every copy players have set aside. The figures come from Sensor Tower's weekly Grand Theft Auto VI sales tracker, with data to November 3, 2026.
A projection of 25 million by launch
Sensor Tower is also projecting as many as 25 million total pre-purchases for Grand Theft Auto VI by launch. If the 74 percent to 26 percent split holds, that would work out to about 18.5 million units on PlayStation 5 and 6.5 million units on Xbox Series X|S. That 25 million figure is a projection, not a sales figure. It is the firm's estimate of what could happen between its November 3 data and the November 19 launch, and the platform split could still change before release day.
The launch still ahead
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC version announced, and pre-loading opens on November 10. Until Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive publishes its own numbers, the 7.71 million units and $751 million in this story stay what Sensor Tower says they are: estimates, widely reported this week, and still unconfirmed by the companies selling the game.
