Queensland Police urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact police, and said there was no further information available at this time. The Sydney Morning Herald also reported that multiple people had been shot in a drive-by shooting south of Brisbane. Drive-by shootings are rare in Australia. The Sun noted that the country has strict gun controls, which were introduced after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996.

The shooting comes a week after a 13-year-old boy allegedly fired 27 shots from a semi-automatic rifle into a house in Perth, The Sun reported. Seven people were in the house at the time, in the early hours of last Saturday morning, and the boy was arrested on Monday and charged with eight offences, The Sun reported.
