Bengaluru police have arrested a cab driver, Indushekar, in the Rajajinagar area of Bengaluru, Karnataka, after he claimed, according to police, that he had killed seven people. Police said all seven were relatives of his wife, from two families, and the alleged killings took place within 15 to 20 days. The claim is under verification, and the killings remain allegations under investigation, not a court finding.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said: "The police have arrested a person who claims that, within a span of 15 to 20 days, which is subject to verification, he has murdered seven people." Police said the accused had an earlier chain snatching case against him.
The seven people police say were killed
The Hindu and The Times of India list the seven alleged victims as his wife Sunita, aged 40; his mother in law Rupavathi, aged 65; his brothers in law Shivakumar, aged 46, and Shankar, aged 44; Shivakumar's wife Divya, aged 30; Shankar's wife Nalini, aged 29; and Shankar and Nalini's son Puneeth, aged 7.
Only one of the seven bodies had been recovered as of November 7. The body of Puneeth, aged 7, was recovered near Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district. Police said six bodies were yet to be found on the information given by the accused.
Senior officers told The Hindu the alleged murders took place between October 16 and October 31, 2026, and the last two bodies were disposed of on November 1 or 2. Sunita and Rupavathi were said to be the first killed. The couple had been married for 20 years and had regular arguments, an officer said. Initial investigations said the alleged killings were carried out at the accused's house near Bashyam Circle in Srirampura, within Rajajinagar police station limits.
A missing person complaint opened the case
The case came to light from a missing persons complaint. Nalini's mother Tungamma went to police on November 3 after Nalini's phone was switched off and the Srirampura house was locked. A senior officer told The Hindu police became suspicious and started tracking Indushekar.
Home minister says the probe is progressing
On Saturday, November 7, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge told reporters in Bengaluru the investigation is progressing and only one body had been recovered so far. Police were not disclosing further details, he said.
Kharge said police are examining the possible involvement of the accused's minor daughter and the circumstances under which she allegedly accompanied him while transporting the bodies. Preliminary information suggested the accused had persuaded her to follow him, Kharge said. She is reported as saying she just followed her father's instructions. She is a minor, and police present her role only as under investigation. On her role, Kharge said: "It will take more time to establish all the facts."
Kharge said the accused cited several reasons, including that his wife's family members did not speak to him properly, and made allegations against his wife. Police are verifying these claims, and a motive has not been established.
The investigation has been transferred from Police Inspector Krishna to Assistant Commissioner of Police Prabhavathi, who has been appointed as Investigating Officer. Additional Commissioner of Police Vamshi Krishna will supervise and monitor the investigation.
