Two Killed, Three Hurt in Shooting at West Baltimore Gas Station

BALTIMORE. A man and a woman were killed and three other people were wounded in a shooting at a BP gas station in West Baltimore on Sunday night, police said.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, in the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said, according to WBAL-TV. CBS News reported that officers were called to the gas station at about 10:30 p.m.

At the scene, officers found a woman and three men with gunshot wounds. A fifth victim, a man, arrived at a hospital on his own with gunshot wounds, police said. Five people were shot in total.

Worley said the woman and one of the men died. The other three victims were believed to have suffered injuries that were not life threatening, WBAL-TV reported, and CBS News reported that they were expected to survive.

Police look for two or three gunmen

Worley said two or three gunmen may have been involved in the attack, and that high-powered rifles were used, CBS News reported. No arrests had been made as of Sunday night, and police had not named any suspect.

Investigators do not yet know why the shooting happened. "We don't know any of that yet," Worley said, when he was asked about a motive. He said investigators hoped to learn more by speaking with the surviving victims, and he noted that police often rely on video footage to piece together what happened in a case like this.

Police have not released the names of the people who were killed or wounded. They have not said whether the victims knew one another, and they have not said whether the shooting was targeted or random. Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact them.

Another shooting in a hard month for the city

The gas station shooting was the latest in a series of shootings in Baltimore over the past month, CBS News reported. It left another neighborhood in the city waiting for answers on Monday morning, with the survivors in hospitals and the shooters still not caught.

What is known is narrow, and police were clear about that on Sunday night. Five people were shot at a gas station on Edmondson Avenue. Two of them died. The search for the gunmen, and for a reason, is now the work in front of detectives.
