Jason Robertson scored a natural hat trick in 5 minutes and 20 seconds early in the second period, and the Dallas Stars held off a late Washington rally to beat the Capitals 6-5 on Tuesday night, November 3, 2026, at Capital One Arena. It was the third-fastest natural hat trick in Stars team history. Robertson's goals were his sixth, seventh and eighth of the season, and the seventh hat trick of his career.

Joel Kiviranta opened the scoring midway through the first period, beating Washington goalie Logan Thompson after a poor clearance. The game then turned in a rush. Robertson's first goal came 23 seconds into the second period, on the power play, as he skated into the left faceoff circle and beat Thompson on the glove side. Two more goals followed in the same burst, and Thompson was pulled from the net.

Washington keeps coming back

Jordan Kyrou got Washington on the board and finished with a goal and two assists. Mikko Rantanen answered for Dallas later in the second period. Boone Jenner scored for Washington, and Jakob Chychrun added a power-play goal, so the Capitals closed the second period down 5-3 after trailing 4-0.

Roope Hintz pushed the lead to 6-3 at 1:23 of the third period, with Robertson picking up an assist. Justin Sourdif scored at 12:55 of the third to make it 6-4. Ryan Leonard then scored on a six-on-five attack with 1:02 left, cutting the lead to one. Dallas killed the final minute. Jake Oettinger made 20 saves on 25 shots.

Robertson finished with four points, three goals and the assist on the Hintz goal. Hintz also had a goal and an assist. Rantanen's second-period goal pulled him level with Robertson for the team lead in goals. For Washington, the scoring was spread out: Kyrou led the team with three points, and Chychrun added a goal and an assist to go with the goals from Jenner, Sourdif and Leonard.

What the result means

Dallas has now taken points in five straight road games. The win was built on one short burst: four goals in the first half of the second period, three of them from the same stick. Washington lost at home for the second straight game, and the loss came on a night when the Capitals scored five times and still came away with nothing.

What happens next

The Stars finish their road trip at Columbus on Thursday night. The Capitals stay home and complete a three-game homestand against Florida on Saturday.
