A man who barricaded himself inside a home in southwest Oklahoma City was found dead after a brief standoff early on Monday, November 2, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.

What police say happened

Officers were responding to a reported incident around 1 a.m. on Monday near Southwest 81st Street and South Youngs Boulevard when they made contact with a suspect at a nearby residence, News 9 reported, citing the police department.

The man barricaded himself inside the home, police said. Officers later entered the home and found the man dead inside.

No officer fired a weapon during the incident, police said. KOCO 5, the second Oklahoma City station to report the standoff on Monday, carried the same police account of a barricaded suspect found dead in southwest Oklahoma City.

What police have not said

Police have not released the man's name, and investigators are working to determine the cause of his death. The reports published on Monday do not describe the reported incident that first brought officers to the area around 1 a.m., and police have not said how long the standoff lasted beyond calling it brief, or whether anyone else was inside the home.

The reports also do not say whether the man was armed, whether negotiators or a tactical team were called to the home, or whether neighbors were asked to leave their homes during the standoff. Police have given no timeline for releasing the man's name or the cause of his death.

No photo of the man is used in this report. Police have released no name and no image in the accounts published so far, and this report does not publish either one.

Investigation continuing

For residents in southwest Oklahoma City, the confirmed facts on Monday are narrow. A reported incident near Southwest 81st Street and South Youngs Boulevard brought officers to the area around 1 a.m. A man barricaded himself inside a nearby home. Officers entered the home and found him dead, and no officer fired a weapon.

Detectives are expected to release more information as the investigation establishes how the man died and what brought officers to the residence in the first place.

The standoff was the second fatal police call in Oklahoma City in about a day. Early on Sunday, a shooting and a fatal vehicle strike after a Halloween party in southeast Oklahoma City killed two people and sent a third person to a hospital, in a case police updated on Monday with an arrest and the names of the two people killed. Police have not linked the two incidents, and the southwest standoff is a separate investigation on the other side of the city.
