Nepal beat Oman by 10 runs at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Monday, defending 280 to close their ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign in sixth place, one point ahead of Canada.
Nepal won the toss and batted, and slipped to 99 for 3 before captain Rohit Paudel and Dipendra Singh Airee rebuilt the innings with a fourth wicket stand of 139. Paudel top scored with 80 off 81 balls, Airee made 69 off 62, and Dev Khanal added 57 off 65 as Nepal were bowled out for 280 in 50 overs. Shah Faisal took five wickets for Oman, and Jay Odedra took three.
Oman looked in control of the chase for long stretches. Jatinder Singh made 89 and Hammad Mirza 87, and their partnership of 158 took the hosts close to the target. Nepal broke the stand late, with Lalit Rajbanshi finishing with two wickets, Airee two, and Sandeep Lamichhane one for 37 runs from his 10 overs.
Hassnain Shah revived the chase at the end, hitting an unbeaten 40 off 23 balls. Oman needed 23 runs from the final over. Airee bowled it, and Oman could not get there, finishing on 270 for 7.
The win took Nepal to 30 points from 36 matches, with Canada seventh on 29. Sixth place strengthens Nepal's push to keep One Day International status and stay on the path toward the 2027 World Cup qualifying playoff. Asia Daily reported that Lamichhane said after the match that Nepal had preserved their status, while noting that a formal announcement from the International Cricket Council was still pending.
