Curry is expected to play, the Warriors are still short

Curry twisted his right ankle in an open practice on Sunday, Oct. 18 and limped off, but head coach Steve Kerr said on Monday that Curry was a full participant in practice and is expected to play in the opener. Kerr told reporters Curry said the ankle was fine right after it happened.

Golden State still starts the season thin. Jimmy Butler III is out with a torn ACL and is not expected back until January or February. Moses Moody is out after rupturing a patellar tendon in March. Kristaps Porzingis is out with a health issue, and Brandin Podziemski has been ruled out with back tightness, according to the Warriors injury listings on game day.

A new Lakers team around Doncic

This is the first Lakers opener of the Doncic era at home. LeBron James left for Philadelphia in the summer, and Los Angeles rebuilt around Doncic with Walker Kessler and Quentin Grimes among the new starters. Oddsmakers listed by ESPN make the Lakers 5.5 point favorites, with a total of 234.5 points. Golden State won three of the four meetings between the teams last season.
