Tesla opened its Robotaxi ride service in Fort Worth on Monday morning, giving the city a driverless option that local riders could book for the first time.
The company announced the launch on Sunday night through its official Robotaxi account on X, saying rides would be available in Fort Worth starting at 6 a.m. Rides opened on schedule on Monday, November 2, and Drive Tesla Canada reported that a local rider had already booked a first trip and shared video from inside the car during the morning.
A large first zone
The launch area is centered on downtown Fort Worth. EVwire, reading the map Tesla shared, put the zone at about 143 square miles, reaching White Settlement in the west, Haltom City in the east, Benbrook and Forest Hill in the south and the edge of Saginaw in the north. At its widest points the zone runs about 13 miles east to west and 15 miles north to south.
That makes Fort Worth one of the larger service areas in the network at launch. Estimates shared by Tesla watcher Sawyer Merritt rank it third, behind Austin at about 272 square miles and Houston at about 254 square miles, and well ahead of neighboring Dallas at about 81 square miles.
Seventh city, fourth in Texas
Fort Worth is the seventh city where Tesla runs the service and the fourth in Texas, after Austin, Dallas and Houston. Miami, Orlando and Tampa in Florida round out the list. It is the first new Robotaxi city in about three months, since the Orlando and Tampa launches in late July.
Not a Tesla App reported that Fort Worth rides use Model Y vehicles and run without a human safety monitor in the car, matching Tesla's other Texas markets. The launch comes about a week after Tesla expanded its Houston service area into a much larger zone shaped, in the company's map, like a Starship rocket. Last week Tesla also extended Robotaxi operating hours to 6 a.m. through 2 a.m., a 20 hour day. On its third quarter earnings call, the company said its two seat Cybercab would start rides in Dallas this month and that it aims to run the service around the clock by the end of 2026.
What Tesla has not said
Tesla has not shared how many vehicles will serve Fort Worth at launch, what rides there will cost, or whether the Fort Worth and Dallas zones will later connect into one Dallas Fort Worth service area. For now, the two zones sit side by side in the same metro area, separated by cities such as Arlington and Grand Prairie that sit outside both maps.
