Cincinnati police gave their first full account of Halloween weekend on Monday evening, and the list ran long. Forty four people were arrested across the city. One man was shot dead inside a downtown lounge. Two police officers were attacked while working a crowd in Corryville. A crowd of about 2,000 people had to be dispersed near the University of Cincinnati.
The department described the weekend as a string of violent crimes, crowd disturbances, assaults, firearm incidents and large disorderly gatherings across several neighborhoods. Most of the worst of it was packed into two hours, from late on Saturday, October 31 into the early hours of Sunday, November 1, police said.
A death downtown
At about 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, officers took one person into custody after a large fight in the 2800 block of Short Vine Street. Police said the person interfered with officers during the response and was charged with obstructing official business.
Just after midnight, officers nearby heard gunshots outside a night club on East 7th Street. They went straight into Memories Lounge and found Kameiro Blair-Martin with critical injuries. He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died. Blair-Martin was 20. His family told WLWT that he was working at the lounge that night. A police spokesman, Brad Underwood, said on Monday afternoon that officers had made no arrest in the lounge shooting and had released no motive.
As officers kept working the large crowds in the Uptown area, an officer saw an assault on Vine Street. Police used chemical irritants to stop it. The person attacked was treated for injuries that were not life threatening, and the attackers ran off before they could be identified, police said. Minutes later, officers arrested another person on charges of resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon, after people set off large fireworks in a parking lot crowded with people near West Corry Street.
Police also investigated a stabbing and a separate shooting elsewhere that night. One person in each case went to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
Two officers attacked in Corryville
At 1:27 a.m., two officers were attacked while detaining a person in another disorderly crowd near Jefferson Avenue, police said. One officer was taken to a hospital for his injuries. The other was treated at the scene. The attacker was arrested, and police confirmed that two people in all were arrested in connection with the assaults on the officers.
Minutes after that attack, officers arrested several people for resisting and disorderly conduct while breaking up a crowd of about 2,000 people near West Corry Street. In Corryville as a whole, 11 people were arrested over the weekend, police said.
What officials said
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson reacted to the assaults on the officers in a statement on Monday. "Violence against law enforcement is unacceptable, and those responsible must be held accountable," Wilson said.
Police released no names of the people arrested in the Monday evening account, beyond the victim at the lounge. The investigations into the lounge shooting, the stabbing and the separate shooting are ongoing.
