Two people are dead after a reported kidnapping in Burleson on Thursday morning turned into a police chase across the south side of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and ended near a small airport in Cresson, police said.
Burleson police said public safety personnel received reports of an armed man in the 700 block of West Hidden Creek Parkway at about 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, October 29. The man was seen outside with a woman before forcing her into a vehicle. Police said initial information indicated the two were estranged spouses.
The chase south
The man fled the area and drove southbound on State Highway 174, also signed as Wilshire Boulevard. Burleson officers tried to stop the vehicle, but police said the driver refused to comply and officers began a pursuit.
The chase continued toward Chisholm Trail Parkway and out of Burleson into Parker County. FOX 4, citing police sources, reported that units chased the vehicle into Parker County at about 8:20 a.m. and that by 8:22 a.m. the vehicle was at the dead end of Flagship Court in Cresson. A witness video sent to the FOX 4 newsroom showed a black SUV hopping a curb, followed by several police vehicles.
The pursuit ended near Bourland Field Airport in Cresson. Police said both the man and the woman were found dead inside the vehicle from apparent gunshot wounds, and preliminary findings indicated the incident was a murder-suicide.
What police have said
Burleson police said no shots were fired by any responding law enforcement agency. The department was assisted by the Johnson County, Parker County and Tarrant County sheriff offices, the Fort Worth Police Department Air 1 helicopter unit and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The identities of the two people who died have not been released. Police said the names are being withheld while next of kin are notified, and the circumstances around the incident remain under investigation.
At a midday update, Burleson Police Chief Billy Cordell said the man and woman were an estranged married couple who had moved to the Burleson area in August 2026, according to CBS News Texas. WFAA carried the police update live on Thursday afternoon as investigators continued to work through what happened before the first calls came in.
Burleson sits in Johnson and Tarrant counties, south of Fort Worth, and Cresson is a small city in Parker and Hood counties along the same highway corridor. Police have not said how long the vehicle was stopped before officers approached it, and they have not released any information about a weapon recovered at the scene.
Anyone following the case should expect the names and the official findings to come from Burleson police and the medical examiner process, not from scanner traffic. The department said the investigation is ongoing.
